Community Development Events – These events are made possible through funds approved by the City of Dalhart Community Development fund so the chamber can plan and provide these events for the community.  Downtown Block Party – Held annually in September to bring area residents into the downtown area.  This event began as a celebration of the renovations done by the city in the downtown area.  The chamber plans to continue building this event to make it bigger and better.  Fiddler’s Contest – This event is held in conjunction with the Annual XIT Rodeo & Reunion and brings a taste of country swing to the annual event.  July 4th Fireworks – With support from the City of Dalhart and our Pyrotechnic Crew there will be a community fireworks display at Rita Blanca Lake on July 4, 2014.  Costume Contest held in conjunction with Downtown Trick or Treat Festival - This event is planned to give the kids in our community something fun for Halloween that is a safe alternative to trick or treating. The Chamber will host the Costume Contest in conjunction with this community event.   Christmas Lighting – The chamber works in conjunction with the Dalhart Unit and the City of Dalhart to decorate our community for Christmas.  The Chamber will host an open house and visits with Santa for the Christmas Season.

Development - Dee Brown

Shop Local Program – This is one area that is very important to any community and Dalhart is no exception.  The Santa Cash Shopping Promotion/Dalhart Dollars programs are help keep money in Dalhart and working to make our local economy stronger.  The Santa Cash promotion is held from November - January is designed to encourage shopping local during the Christmas Shopping Season, with Santa Cash Giveaways and Santa Cash Sales that make great gifts.  The Dalhart Dollars works like local certificates and runs year round.  The chamber plans to develop some additional events and programs that will help familiarize residents with the businesses of Dalhart and encourage them to shop Dalhart first.  Need to find more secure way to distribute the certificates to prevent duplication and protect the integrity of the program.

Shop Local Campaign  - Because shopping local is important to the growth and economic stability of the community the chamber would like to look at working with the City, Local Merchants, Dalhart EDC and others to organize and launch an educational marketing program geared at educating the residents of Dalhart the importance to supporting local businesses in Dalhart.

Merchant Committee – The chamber would like to work on building an external group of local businesses owners that would work together to develop programs, events, support other businesses, further develop the business community, encourage and support growth in the retail business area.

Employment and Educational programs – The chamber will continue to provide assistance to our members with employment needs through our website and our partnership with the Frank Phillips College Dalhart Center to help provide an educated workforce to our members and area businesses.  We will also continue to distribute employment applications when necessary. We also want to focus on building a link between the developing workforce coming out of the local school district and connecting them with employment opportunities in the community.  Possible plan some roundtable or forum opportunities to bring much needed information to local businesses.

Business/Entrepreneur Development – As part of the program for 2015 the chamber would like to develop some opportunities for businesses to network and grow with programs like a “Professionals Network” that would give business professionals in our community the opportunity connect.  Also look into some networking breakfast events or after-hours events to provide networking opportunities for members.

Organizational Affairs - Ashley Thomas

Organizational Structure – Continue to review and update all chamber policies and bylaws to ensure we are operating under current laws and statutes. The Chamber will continue to support staff and board with professional development opportunities to continue making the organization stronger.

Ribbon Cuttings – Since the Red Coat Ambassadors program was dissolved in 2014, we aim to establish a system of accountability for board members to take turns attending all ribbon cuttings to serve as ambassadors of the organization.

Membership – Our chamber members continue to be the biggest asset to our organization. In 2015, we would like to maintain the 2014 goal of conducting membership luncheons to education our members about new benefits and other issues. We would also like to see the implementation of several non-dues revenue events to foster relationships and create an environment of collaboration for our members.

Governmental Affairs and Legislative Issues – The chamber feels that it is important to keep our members informed about issues, legislation and regulations that can affect our local businesses. The Chamber of Commerce will continue to stay abreast of these issues and keep our members informed and take action as necessary.
